-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic information: My name is Jiangshan Lai and I am a 43-year-old full professor and PI of quantitative ecology at Nanjing Forestry University in China. I recently left the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. I was a visiting scholar in Pierre Legendre's laboratory at the University of Montreal, who is the founder of numerical ecology. My research focuses on developing new statistical methods to solve ecological problems.One such problem is the lack of quantitative frameworks for estimating the overall importance of single predictors in multi-response regression models. To address this issue, my colleagues and I demonstrated the mathematical links between commonality analysis, variation, and hierarchical partitioning. We also generalized these frameworks to allow the analysis of any number of predictor variables or groups of predictor variables, as in the case of variation partitioning. Finally, we introduced and demonstrated the implementation of these generalized frameworks in the R package rdacca.hp.Our work was published in the April issue of Methods in Ecology and Evolution in 2022 (https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/2041-210X.13800). To date, our article has been cited more than 260 times (Google Scholar) and 220 times (Web of Science). It is also the most cited article in MEE in the last two years (464 items in total) and has significantly higher citations than other articles in the same year (2022). I am committed to sharing my expertise in statistical ecology with others. I have organized and led many workshops on statistical ecology with R in China, with thousands of participants.
